Lok Satta Party to abide by Gandhi's ideals

Hyderabad, Jan. 30 - Rededication to nationalism at a time feelings of caste, religion and region threaten to tear the country asunder is the real tribute we can pay to Mahatma Gandhi, said the Lok Satta Party today.

At a function held to mark the 60th death anniversary of the Father of the Nation, the Lok Satta Party called upon people to concern themselves with politics, which Gandhi described as sacred. The Lok Satta Party, which took its birth on Gandhi’s birth anniversary in 2006, is committed to realizing Mahatma Gandhi's ideals, the leaders said.

Addressing the meeting, Mr. D. V. S. Varma, party Secretary, said Mahatma Gandhi had not merely attained freedom for the country but handed down values for generations to follow. Gandhi united the fractious nation and promoted the feeling that we are all Indians first. Pointing out that politics touched every aspect of people's lives, Mahatma Gandhi said that politics could be changed only when all people involve themselves in the task. Keeping in mind Gandhi's maxim that means are as important as goals, the Lok Satta Party is striving to cleanse the political system. The Lok Satta Party will not sacrifice its nationalist outlook to serve any parochial interest. It will work for Gandhi's 'gram swaraj' through empowerment of local governments, with the ultimate goal of making the citizen sovereign, Mr. Varma said.

Lok Satta Party leaders Mrs. Pratibha Rao, Mrs. D. Manorama, Mrs. D. Lakshmi, Mrs. D. Saroja, Mr. Bandaru Ramamohan Rao, Mr. N. Ravinder and Mr. Krishna Reddy took part in the function.
