There are about 111 countries with a population of less than 35 lakhs, which is the average population size of a district in Andhra Pradesh. Further, our larger states are bigger than 90% of the countries. Given the demographics it is important to re-design our institutions to take governments closer to people. We need to recognize the importance of local governments, as all governance is about people and all politics is local.therefore, Lok Satta Party (LSP) firmly believes that the district must become effective unit of governance, as 90% of the things that are required for people can be done at the district, municipality or mandal level.
